Sony Xperia Play 4G Review
Sony Xperia Play 4G is a small gaming-oriented smartphone with a rather mediocre 4” WVGA display. Nevertheless, it doesn’t use the controversial PenTile panel, which results in better color representation. Sony ships the Xperia Play 4G with screen protector preinstalled to prevent nasty scratches.
Xperia Play 4G works nicely for gaming, although Sony PS or Nintendo DS could be better for more serious gamers. After awhile, it is likely to feel that the Start and Select buttons have awkward placement and you’ll wish that they are positioned more to the center.
The gaming smartphone is delivered with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) and it is rather light on bloatware. Although it would be nice to have a dual- or quad-core chip for an extra kick, the phone is no weakling. Graphics-intensive games don’t make the phone stutter and the 1GHz processor manages to maintain a buttery smooth performance. The Xperia Play 4G sports a 5Mp rear camera and unfortunately, quality hasn’t improved noticeably. However, it is good thing to know that phone now comes with a separate charging dock.
